The types of studies range from online surveys to product testing to focus groups. Study topics vary widely but generally include the likes and dislikes of products and services. Some studies might ask you to actually try a product - some examples have included window coverings, vitamin water, pizza and asthma inhalers - while other studies may ask for your interpretations about a legal, financial or political matter. Go to online surveys, product testing, and focus groups to learn more.
Studies are conducted in many different forms: •
Online surveys where a pre-programmed questionnaire is answered entirely online;
• Online focus groups or bulletin boards where questions and answers flow in an online discussion that may take an hour or span a two or three day period;
• In-person focus groups held at a facility in your city or at an event you’re attending;
• Telephone surveys where you answer questions read to you by an interviewer;
• A diary or camera journal that records interaction with a particular product or service;
• In-home new product tests (e.g., window coverings, salad crispers, electric toothbrushes, etc. – you almost always get to keep the product);
• Taste tests where you go to a facility in your city, eat and/or drink and give your opinion;
• Product tests (e.g., new acne product, new inline skate brake, new
Blackberry, new home thermometer, etc.) – you try the product for
a specified period of time and give your opinions (you often get to keep these too);
• Website usability, where you log online and report the user-friendliness of the website;
• Advertising tests (e.g., hear, read, or watch ads and provide input – some are conducted over the phone, online, or in a focus group setting);
• Mock jury (observe the arguments of a case that’s going to trial and give your verdict);
• Shadow jury (actually attend a real jury trial in the observer seats at the courthouse and provide feedback daily);
• Mystery shopping (e.g., get paid to dine out and rate the food
and service; visit a business, buy a product and measure whether the agent did his/her job properly);
• Medical or psychological trials/tests (test topics range widely – i.e., memory, exercise, arthritis, diabetics, persons 65+ on heart medication, twins, bi-polar, women with breast cancer, etc., oftentimes held at a local university);
• Clinical trials (e.g., generally longer term blind or double-blind studies testing the safety and efficacy of new drugs or devices)
We make every attempt to keep our panel members active; however, there are no guarantees as to how many surveys and/or focus groups in which you will be asked to participate. Many things factor in to how often our panelists contribute including specific household profiles and the type of information our clients need to know. We rotate our panel member list on a regular basis to give all members an equal chance of participation. On average our panelists participate in 3-6 studies per year.

The compensation for participating in research studies vary with the length of involvement (i.e.
5-minutes web survey to 6-week jury trial), difficulty of the tasks, and
requirements for participation (e.g. any U.S. Citizen,
Centenarians, or doctors specializing in deep brain stimulation). Members
of the Resolution Research Panel have received compensation as diverse as
reward points, $5
gift cards, drawings for cash or prizes, $100 a day compensation, free products
(new window coverings for your home), $25 cash incentives or up to $500 Visa
cash cards. Some studies don’t pay at all – generally studies sponsored by a
government entity (city, state or federal) are non-compensated. Occasionally,
Resolution Research conducts a study in-house with its panel members as a
knowledge piece for the public (e.g.,
ecological concerns,
New Year’s resolutions). The compensation for these studies is
either rewards points or a
random drawing for rewards such as $25 cash cards or Starbuck coffee cards. The
results of these studies are usually shared either on our website or you might
read/hear/view the results in a news article.
In general, most of our surveys include an incentive for panelists who
successfully qualify for and complete the entire study. You will be rewarded in
one of several ways: reward points, cash, gift certificate, pre-paid check card, or entry into
a drawing. When we e-mail you an invitation to participate in a particular
survey, we will let you know exactly what the reward or incentive is for that
particular survey. We know your time is valuable, and we assure you that we will
not take it for granted.
The amount of time it takes to receive your incentive depends on the size and
complexity of the study. Incentives are not sent until the study has drawn to a
close and the data has been processed. In general, incentives arrive within 4-6
weeks. If you have not received your incentive after 6 weeks, please contact us
at incentives@re-search.com and we will check on its status.
If you are a member of our consumer panel and the incentive for your study was
reward points, your profile will updated immediately and you can redeem at your
leisure.
The screener is a set of questions used to determine if you qualify for a
particular study. It is not the actual study. Depending on the complexity of the
study, screener questions can take 1-5 minutes and don’t guarantee a spot in the
study.
No. The amount you can spend is limited to the total value on the card when it
was purchased. Unlike a credit card, you do not receive any bills – the amount
of each purchase is simply debited from the remaining balance on the card.
Using your gift card is similar to using a regular Visa credit card. Every time
a purchase is made over the counter, you are required to sign for your purchase.
If prompted to select between "credit" and "debit", you must always select the
"credit" option. Selecting the "debit" option will lead to the transaction being
declined.
If your card has been declined, there are a couple different reasons this could
have happened:
First, make sure you have selected credit. If you have selected credit and you
are still declined, you will need to check your available balance. You many call
the number on the back of the card or contact us directly at
incentives@re-search.com. If the
purchase amount is greater than the available balance on your card, please tell
the cashier that you would prefer to pay the difference with an alternate
payment method first, and then pay the remaining balance with your card.
Our surveys and focus groups are designed to gather opinions on a wide range of products and services. Depending on the panel in which you are participating, we may need your opinions on anything ranging from online banking to window coverings to pharmaceutical products. You can go to our online survey, focus group and in-home product testing pages to learn more.
You should complete it immediately to assure that you have the opportunity to participate because each survey has particular quotas for the types of respondents needed. Once a particular quota is met, the survey is closed to that population.
Every research study is geared toward a specific target audience. Because the criteria used to define the audience changes from study to study, it is impossible for you to qualify for every research study we conduct.
Some surveys only seek the opinions of a few particular types of persons. As soon as those persons are identified and participate in the survey, no additional persons are accepted. Likewise, the survey is open to every individual; consequently, the first persons to respond soon reach the goals required for the study, which closes participation.
Sometimes people inquiring about the research studies we conduct think that they are inquiring about an employment position at Resolution Research. We do not "employ" research participants although we often pay incentives for participation. People who participate in our research studies are called panel members. However, if you are interested in working at Resolution Research as a research associate in Denver, Colorado, you can submit a resume to jobs@re-search.com. If you are interested in participating in the paid research studies, we would love to have you Join our Panel.
